Names are vessels, and we needed one big enough to hold all the things we do. Medium Small speaks to the way relative scale informs all aspects of our process, and serves as a flexible name that can hold the multiple facets of our practice. In other words, our medium is small projects.

We design and manufacture all of our pieces in our San Francisco workshop. We work in collaboration with a a community of fabricators in and around the Bay Area to produce small-batch, high-quality furniture and lighting.

Of course! Our small-batch production model allows us to make tweaks to our products to meet your specifications. Our products are all designed to be adaptable, with mix and match options, but we can also accommodate custom sizing or finishes to meet your needs. Studio visits are by appointment only—send us an email at info@medium-small.com to schedule a drop-in.

Lead times vary based on item and shop workload. Each product has a specific lead time based on the complexity of fabrication, found both on the product page and tear sheet. If you have further questions regarding the production and shipment of your order, please contact us by email.

Everyday cleaning is best done with a damp cloth followed by a dry cloth, making sure to remove all moisture. Solvent-based cleaners such as glass cleaners and commercial sanitizers should not be used on wood components. They will strip the finish over time, leaving the wood raw and unprotected.

It is strongly advised that you keep your piece out of direct sunlight. Wood expands and contracts with temperature and moisture, and the exposure to direct sunlight can cause a sudden temperature increase that can permanently damage a glue joint. Wood is a natural material, and, even when finished, excessive UV exposure may result in discoloration.

Policies

All orders placed through our website or directly with Medium Small are packed and shipped from our San Francisco studio. We pack with the utmost care and attention to ensure secure transportation and delivery. Local pickup is encouraged when possible. We ship oversized items via a white glove delivery service. Smaller items will ship via FedEx or UPS. We do not provide international shipping options at this time.

All sales are final as each item is hand-made to order. We do not accept cancellations, order changes, or returns once an order has been confirmed. If a product arrives damaged, please contact us immediately via email to file a claim. All claims must be submitted within 24 hours of delivery receipt, and are investigated on a case-by-case basis.

All pricing is quoted in US dollars and are subject to change without notice. For inquiries regarding products, customizations, or specialty fabrication, quotes will be issued in writing and pricing will remain valid for 30 days.

As a business in the state of California, we are required to charge sales tax on goods and shipping within the state of a California. If you are a California resident with a resale certificate, please contact us to set up a tax-exempt account. Taxes will not be charged on items shipping outside the state of California, with the purchaser liable for reporting within their own state.

We offer a warranty that covers any defects in materials or workmanship, excluding installation, to the original purchaser for two (2) years after receipt of the product. This limited warranty does not cover any damage due to improper installation, accident, misuse, abuse, or negligence.
